I heard about this and thought she must have been making some sort of tribute. That’s what "artists" do regardless of their color.
And yes, if a white singer had done this, i don’t think there would be backlash.

What if what if. Your "What if" scenario didn’t happen, therefore there’s no reason for this question.
If Badu got the permits like she was supposed to, then there would be no issue. Of course it was all a publicity stunt to sell CDs. Bad publicity is good when you want to sell CDs.

You do realize that she was praising JFK, right? Have you even seen the video for yourself? She was basically saying JFK was shot because he thought for himself. She was painting him as a martyr, so I don’t see how you can be so offended. She wasn’t vulgar, but artistic. You calling her body "fat" only contributes to young girls starving themselves. She’s almost 40 and still has a body like that? I’m not saying she’s hot, ’cause I’m really not attracted to her, but she’s real. That’s the entire point of the video, to be real with yourself, and go outside the groupthink comfort zone. It’s an excellent display of art, and let me tell you something, as a white man… if a 23-year-old white girl had re-enacted MLK’s death while stripping, then it would be released on DVD and used on a Budweiser commercial or GoDaddy.com, there would be no legal action taken, and it probably wouldn’t have any artistic merit, considering the intelligence level of many white girls I know (well, those who are acceptable-looking, if you know what I mean… if they have the right measurements, they can get away with anything under the name of "entertainment," while the true artists are always demonized). Honestly, I don’t even like Erykah Badu’s music, and I’m not a perv, but I loved that video for it’s artistic merit.
