Why are people against the death penalty?
Date Posted: May 6th, 2010 Posted Under: murder fatWhy are so many people not willing that a man who commits war crimes face death. If our Beloved country God-forbid, was ever attacked, was in ruins, and the American patriots were fighting for what was left of our country. And you saw those American patriots being executed after surrender and your family was taken away, your mother and sisters raped, father and brothers killed, would you not want the man responsible to pay with his life? I know it’s hard to say because we are spoiled fat in this country, we haven’t had the effects and destruction of war in this country, thank God. But would you, after seeing that man ruin your family, give that murder a second chance. Or would you respect your family and see that man dead ? Just something to think about….
I just want everyone to think about that… I know many people whould rather that man rot in prison, however seeing millions die because of one sick mans desire to "take over" might change your mind, but then again we never experienced that.
Fear of death is the only even partially effective deterrent. Americans have grown soft, and out of touch with reality. That’s why we have the highest incarceration rate per capita in the would, with an 85% recidivism rate! That means that 6 out of 7 people released from prison didn’t learn squat, and are going to do IT AGAIN, and maybe to you!!! To be such a smart people, sometimes we sure are dumb!!

From a moral standpoint, people think it only stoops to the level of a murderer to impose death on an individual. Along the same lines, many also think that life in prison is a much worse punishment.

Their are legitimate reasons to be for and against-it’s not a simple issue-

Because I believe taking a life is wrong.
And because I believe the death penalty is not justice, but revenge, as you so eloquently illustrated in your example.

Nope I would want him to rot in jail for the rest of his life with no chance of getting out. Ever. No second chance.
No one can prove there ISN’T a God. No one can prove that there isn’t reincarnation. No one can prove that there aren’t ghosts that come back to haunt people who did them wrongs… you get the point. So really how could we justify letting someone die by choice - especially when so many people die by accidents or by the whim of other people?

Because in the end, it doesn’t change anything. Whether someone kills me first, then someone kills that person for revenge. What does it solve? Yes, those sinister people who do commit murder are wrong, and so are we who conflict it back. If you want to give someone life in prision, fine. And people know killing doesn’t solve a thing. And we as Christians who know which I know isn’t everyone, know murder is a sin in anyway shape or form. Period.

in the situation you’re speaking of, to be honest yes, i would want them to die. However, thats an emotional response…
a major reason people oppose the death penalty here in the states is because there is no proven correlation between the death penalty and deterrance from future murders. The purpose of a punishment is to keep similar things from happening again. If it’s not doing that, its not serving its purpose. There are also arguments that it is cruel and unusual, but that’s debatable.

I do understand what you are you are talking about, However - Its war! And during War many things out of the ordinary have happened. In all WARS that I can remember, There are always problems during the war like this one. You have to remember that Gods law (A eye for an eye) - and Mans law - You are Innocent until proven guilty. My only question is - What if you got the wrong person - Executed him/her and find out you made a mistake? Are you going to have him/her Reborn? Think about it!

A life for a life just makes a chain of deaths. Things don’t end that quickly. God is a forgiving God, so we should be forgiving too. He doesn’t want to see his people die.

If I had experienced the horrors that Saddam’s victims have experienced, I undoubtedly would want the man to pay with his life. The fact is, I would be consumed with thoughts of revenge. But I haven’t experienced those horrors, thank God, and I pray that I never will. But at the same time, I have to say, that more than Saddam Hussein has committed evil crimes against humanity. A lot more than him. And, unless I am mistaken, Saddam has been the only leader whose blood has been demanded by people who have never even been affected by his crimes. I won’t name names, but world leaders from the beginning of time have killed up the innocent without reprise or consequence. The Trail of Tears, 100 years of African-American lynchings, and the Japanese-American Intern (Prison) Camps all come to mind.

I am morally against it. I do not believe that anyone, including the govt, should take away a life unless protecting a life or our country. I believe that this war is an immoral one because I have never believed it to be a "just" war. In addition to that, I think that life in prison is a greater punishment than death.

Two reasons:
1) the law reads; Thou shall not kill.
2) If a police officer is chasing down a suspect who has just committed a capital crime, and he or she knows that if captured they will be put to death, what is going to stop them from trying to kill that officer? The death penalty doesn’t’ work as a deterrent and it puts law enforcement in more danger.
