Why is Ronald Reagan respected for his "Freedom" Values, when he funded death and torture in LA?

Date Posted: September 24th, 2009 Posted Under: murder fat

Ronald Reagan is getting judged waaay to easily. People need to remember that he overthrew democratically elected officials, and funded a regime that advocated torture and the murder of nuns and political opponents in Latin America?

Why is he then respected for his values in "liberty", when by all accounts, his fat should be crackling in the fires of hell for eternity?

His fat is crackling my friend.

Among his other crimes, he treatred the elderly, particularly the poor elderly, in this country like trash-cutting their medic-aid, prescription coverage, extended care coverage. What sweet irony that he ended up wearing a diaper and eating strained peas, not knowing who he was.

Karma is a mother.

You’re just upset because he crushed Carter and Mondale so easily.

unfortunately i dont know what you are talking about, but his major help in freeing 100’s of millions of people of communist countries is something the world will praise him for. you have not lived under such a regime so you are not in a position to judge.

If it makes you feel any better, i am sure he had no idea he was funding it. lol. he had no idea he was president for the last 5 years or so. and, yes, he was a far worse person, and president than the current majority will allow. he did more to destabilize the western world than any president probably ever. Alot of stray nukes going to the highest bidder because there were no real plans in place to help these suddenly "free" and desperately poor nations. history will not be as kind as the neocons are.

I’m sure if you could actually prove he had any real involvement in those deaths, you could have brought up charges against the man in a court of law……but..what ? Oh…you didn’t have proof…yet you can spout off your loud mouth here. Isn’t freedom great ? Even the whiners , liars and cheats get a voice…even though they do’nt deserve it.
I don’ t hear you whining about the missle Bill Clinton shot off in the Sudan….bombing essencially an aspirin factory. Every president has ruled the country and acted on intel…good or bad…and tried to do what was right to protect the country or secure democracy and allies. If you want to pick out one particular moment in time and whine about it, you better have ALL the facts my friend. I’m sure that nuns as you speak of if the event was even significant were just "collateral damage". There was no willful act, or plan to kill nuns coming form the USA, and if you say yes there was, your a liar. Because no one in America would put up with that kind of cold calculation coming from the white house.
Reagan..if you care to study history a little , you will find was great because he actually used the conservative principles that this country was built on and showed it would work. He was brave enough to go ahead and fight the challenges before him of a democratic controlled house and won. Its a shame that the elitists have wrestled control of the party from the conservatives and now attempt to move more left to accommodate the whacko left fringe and democrat party.
There’s already a democrat party, we don’t need 2, and you can’ t out-liberal a liberal, so why try. The race might be close, but John didn’t have a chance unless he got the conservative votre…which is why he has Mrs. Palin as a running mate. No other obvious choice would have done that.

Ronald Reagan was a really good actor.

People are too dumb to pay attention to or care enough about the offenses that don’t impact their lives directly. Mel Gibson = religious extremist alcoholic/ anti-Semite; also good in some films. Mel Gibson will probably be remembered as a great actor of the times, and his little comments will only be a sentence in his bio on Wikipedia.

Ronald Reagan… you can’t really blame him though in a sense. He had severe problems trying to remember anything - those that worked with him say he couldn’t even remember the names of his own advisers. It’s sad they put him up there as THE great American leader or whatever; people just didn’t know the sneaky stuff he was doing.

Let us also not forget that he wasn’t the greatest domestic policy guy either - raising taxes on poor people and sharply cutting them on the wealthy. Nobody has ever done that.

    The guy was nuts.

You are right. He is judged way to easy. When AIDS first came to America and reached epidemic proportions in 1981 he did nothing. He never even acknowledged the AIDS epidemic until 1987, after 20 plus thousand Americans had died and the disease had spread to 113 countries. He was very irresponsible. His communications director at the time, Pat Buchanan, argued that AIDS was "nature’s revenge on gay men". That is just plain irresponsible. People liked him because he had charisma and he was an actor.
